Big Bad Wolf / Bacardi

Tablet Application

Hardware Integration

The Challenge

In six weeks Big Bad Wolf were launching a campaign for Bacardi. In airports all over Europe customers would be able to print customised labels for their duty free bottles of rum. The only problem was they didn’t have an app that would work on the kiosks they had commissioned, and they were unsure how to integrate with a printer via a Raspberry Pi.

The Solution

Rapid delivery and dual focus.

Big Bad Wolf had produced the artwork, so the UX & UI designers simply had to understand the user journey and design the nuanced interactions. Whilst this work was underway the engineers in the team got hold of the hardware and started working on the app and the integration with the printer.

My role as the leader of the cross functional team was to coach the UX and UI designers to ensure we always put the user at the centre of the journey, whilst ensuring the engineering team knew what they needed to deliver. I also spent some time reviewing banned words in 5 European languages, If you need a euphemism for the results of too much alcohol in German I’m your man!

The Outcome

We did it! In just six weeks the team delivered an app in 5 languages, with a hardware integration for iOS.
